World Series Event in Australia?
- October 6th 2001
Rumours are floating around of an FIVB World Series event to be
held in Cable Beach, WA. We are lead to believe that a submission
has been placed to the FIVB for the event to be staged in the early
half of 2002.
Although with the collapse of Ansett (the only carrier to fly to
Broome) and the September 11 events in the sponsors minds. The event
is not a certainty.
Heres hoping that a FIVB Beach Event will be on our shores in the
near future.
Australianbeachvolleyball.com contacted the FIVB to confirm the
event and their reply is as follows...
At this stage, we have not received any concrete offer from
organisers to promote an event in 2002 in Australia.
The organisers in Broome ( Western Australia ) have not confirmed
their initial interest to pursue the promotion of an event.
The Gold medallist at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games Natalie Cook
is trying to coordinate actions with interested partners aiming
to promote a World Tour event in 2002-2004 in Brisbane. In the next
3 weeks we will know if the above project can be feasible starting
from 2002 onwards or not.
Best Regards
Angelo Squeo
So there is light at the end of the tunnel in regards to the FIVB
staging beach events in Australia in the future.
