Media Release from International Quarterback Thursday, 26 July 2001 The Australian Volleyball Federation (AVF) today announced that talent and event management firm, International Quarterback (IQ), has secured the exclusive rights as promoters/managers of the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour (ABVT) for the next two years, with a further two year option. Senator Chris Schacht, the President of the AVF, welcomed the new arrangements with IQ and is excited about the future success of the ABVT. "I believe this coming summer will be the best Tour ever. I congratulate previous promoters iSport for their work in growing the sport of beach volleyball in the past two years. I also thank the staff of iSport, AVF and IQ in reaching this new arrangement, with the goodwill that continues to advance volleyball in Australia", said Senator Schacht. The sport of beach volleyball in Australia has grown in both participation and popularity levels, following the gold medal success of Kerri Pottharst and Natalie Cook at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. Australia is now one of the top 3 countries in the world and the current World Tour success being enjoyed by both Australia's men's and women's teams, will only enhance this summer's Tour. "IQ are delighted to be involved in the growth of the sport and the prospects that lay ahead for beach volleyball in Australia. It is our aim to continue to increase the profile of the sport and its talented athletes and create a National Tour that will rival traditional summer sports in popularity and public appeal", said Chris White, IQ managing director. "We are looking forward to working closely with the AVF in achieving these goals and also developing the sport further, from the grass roots through to the pros". The 2002 Tour is expected to start with a bang in early January. Further details in relation to venues, dates, sponsors and media partners will be announced in the coming months.
